There’s a story behind the name of this dry, sparkling wine. In 2006, the enologist Giampaolo Parpinello decided to graft the first 100 buds of Torbato, a white-wine grape variety cultivated only in Sardinia. Those first plants have now become more than 50.000 vines, which represent the heart of the Poderi Parpinello.
The origin of this wine is intertwined with Sardinia’s fascinating history. Around 1000 AD, Spanish monks planted this grape variety in the area between Sassari and Alghero. Then the Camaldoleses promoted the grape all over the rest of island.
“SIXTY-FOUR” evokes 1964, the year Giampaolo Parpinello started his career as an enologist in Sardinia. This wine commemorates his first 50 years of dedication and passion for wine and viticulture.
“ITAN” takes its name from “Itinerario Antoniniano”, an ancient road on the Alghero coast.
This characteristic red wine takes its name from the ancient Roman road that connected the cities of Carbia and Nure in the Alghero coast.
Cannonau is the most important red grape variety cultivated in Sardinia. The wine produced from these grapes is thought to be the oldest in the Mediterranean basin.
Made from 100% Semidano grapes, this wine captures the essence of our island.
“Here come the white wings!” This was the children’s cry as they watched the seagulls fly over the vineyard. Vermentino is the main white grape variety cultivated in Sardinia. It is presumed to have Spanish origins, but has found its ideal setting on the island, where it can fully express its special characteristics.
“KRESSIA” means “cherry” in one of the many Sardinian dialects. This wine is made from Cagnulari grapes, which probably trace their origin to Spain. It is found predominantly on the northwest part of the island, following the Aragonese occupation of the area in the 1600s.
In 2006, the enologist Giampaolo Parpinello grafted 100 buds of Torbato, initiating the cultivation of this rare grape variety at Parpinello Vineyards.
